Controversial parties Bill withdrawn

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Gordon Darcy-Lilo has withdrawn the controversial Political Parties Integrity Bill 2013 on the floor of parliament due to lack of support. Lilo needed three quarters backing to get the Bill passed, as he seeks ways to address the issue of political instability, prevalent in most Melanesian countries. MPs are concerned the Bill, as it is, could be unconstitutional. PM Lilo says the Bill will need to go through a wider consultation process.

Also from the Solomon Islands, former controversial Attorney General, Julian Moti, has been appointed first professor of law at the University of Fiji.
