PM Lilo asked to step down
Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, is under pressure from civil society groups to step down as prime minister over allegations that he had failed to deliver on key promises, and that taxpayers had to foot the bill for his recent trip to Indonesia. Recently, those civil society organisations appeared before the Bills and Legislations Committee, despite an attempt by the PM to interfere in the affairs of the committee, to give their views on a new piece of legislation addressing political party issues and stability in government. Meanwhile, media reports say Indonesia has since refunded the Solomon Islands government the full amount of USD171,000.
