Palau, FSM sign internet agreement

Satellite internet service provider O3B networks today announced that they had signed provisioning agreements with both the Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) and the Federated States of Micronesia Telecommunications Corporation (FSMTC). O3B, which recently launched the first four low-orbit satellites in what will ultimately be a globe-spanning network, promises higher bandwidth volumes and better performance than traditional satellite services and lower cost than fibre-optic cable. While the service is still unproven, today’s announcement means that Samoa, the Cook Islands and now two northern states have already committed themselves. Other regional and national service providers are reported to be negotiating with the company.
