Vanuatu no confidence vote postponed
The Vanuatu parliament will debate the opposition-sponsored motion of no confidence in prime minister Moana Carcasses Kalosil this Thursday. The motion was deferred on Monday due to lack of quorum with 27 members from the opposition present, while only three from the government side showed up. Last week Carcasses appointed one of his backbenchers as minister for internal affairs in a bid to shore up his support base. The motion was signed by 27 members of parliament, all of whom were present at Monday’s abortive session. Over the weekend, another five MPs, members of the Iauko Group, announced their intention to vote to oust Mr Carcasses. Among the reasons for the motion are allegations of maladministration, including the sale of diplomatic passports and failed promises.
