Manus riots blamed on security firm

PNG police have blamed British security firm, G4S, for the two nights of rioting on Manus Island that resulted in the death of an Iranian detainee and the injuring of almost 80 others early this week. One of those injured is said to be in critical condition, and has been flown to Australia, while 22 others have sustained minor injuries. PNG police say locals were not involved but other reports suggested otherwise. So far, no arrests have been made. PNG prime minister Peter O’Neill has responded by dispatching an investigation team.  It is not the first time riots have erupted at Australia-run detention centres. Over 1200 people are currently being detained in the facility.
