No job losses for PNG

The downturn in the mining sector in Australia has affected employment opportunities, but Papua New Guineans are holding onto their jobs. Better working conditions in Australia are enticing skilled professionals and trade workers from PNG. One academic says the top roles played by PNG workers in Australia is protecting them from the widespread industry job cuts. In PNG, PM Peter O’Neill has said that no jobs will be lost despite a major restructure of the Ok Tedi mine.
