Fiji rights defender leads People’s Assembly
On the eve of the 68th UN General Assembly, civil society representatives from across the globe convened the first People’s General Assembly to highlight the shortcomings of traditional development models that have resulted in wealth, power and resources accruing to a tiny minority of the world richest people and corporations. The new people’s assembly is led by Virisila Buadromo, the executive director of the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement. World leaders meet later this week to consider a new international development agenda to succeed the Millennium Development Goals, which expire in 2015.
