Breaking family violence cycle

In Papua New Guinea a “men’s only” family violence program aims to boost its 2013 membership significantly to tackle the cycle of family violence. Historically, donor and state supported programs have focused on women (and children) as victims of family violence in PNG. Today some PNG men are spearheading the proactive workshop style forums, delving into the reasons why violence instigated by men occurs in the family unit. The series of Port Moresby based workshops led by PNG behaviour change consultant, Eddie Aila, aims to recruit over a thousand men before the end of this year. Mr Aila’s holistic ‘talk, share and heal’ approach underlies his efforts to uncover the socio-cultural reasons behind family violence.
