Diplomats to act as observers

Last Updated on Friday, 23 November 2012 10:00

Diplomats from Australia, New Zealand, China, the European Union and the U.S. Embassy in Papua New Guinea will act as observers and visit polling stations in Port Vila, rural Efate, Tanna and Santo. The Kilman government is welcoming the observers at a time when discrepancies in electoral roll numbers are being raised. The presence of the observers offers an opportunity to increase transparency and accountability and may go some way in explaining the Vanuatu acting chief electoral officer, Lional Kaluat’s statement that he doesn’t expect many results to be challenged once polling has been completed.

  1. Has there been any feedback from the elections observers about the process of elections? (If you happen to know)
